What to Do When Your Plow Guy Doesn't Show Up
By ResiSnow · Updated October 2026 · Windsor, CT
It's 6:30 in the morning, there's eight inches in the driveway, you have to get to work — and your plow guy is nowhere to be found. It's one of the most frustrating moments of a Connecticut winter, and it happens to good people every year. Here's how to handle it right now, and how to make sure it doesn't happen next time.
Step 1: Call and text your provider first
Before you assume the worst, reach out. Storms are chaotic — trucks break down, routes run hours behind, messages get missed. Call and text, give them the address again in case a route list got scrambled, and ask for a straight answer: when will you be here?
Give a reasonable window. During an active storm, two to three hours behind is unfortunate but normal for a busy operator. What isn't acceptable is no answer, no text back, and no truck after the storm has ended. If you've tried multiple times with no response and the driveway is still buried, it's time for a backup.
Step 2: Have a backup — ResiSnow emergency clearing
This is exactly what emergency snow clearing is for. If your provider isn't coming and you need out of your driveway now, call ResiSnow at (860) 812-7669 for immediate-deployment emergency clearing in Windsor and East Windsor.
| Emergency Clearing | Price |
|---|---|
| Immediate deployment, up to 6" of snow | $300 |
Emergency clearing covers up to 6" of snow like a standard visit. If there's more than 6", the overage is billed the same way as a standard visit — additional visits at the per-visit rate — and heavy, wet snow adds 25%. Prices reflect current fuel, insurance, and operating costs and are subject to change.
If your driveway is already partially shoveled or you're not in a rush, standard per-visit pricing also applies: $115 for a standard driveway (up to 4 cars deep × 2 wide), $140 for a larger one (up to 8 cars deep × 2 wide), $220 for a long or hill driveway. Military discount applies here too — $15 off per-visit service for active military and veterans. One-time services can be paid via Venmo, Zelle, or check — no credit cards.
Step 3: For next time — the contract red flags that predict no-shows
No-shows don't usually come out of nowhere. They're usually baked into how the agreement was set up. When you're choosing a provider for next season, watch for these warning signs — general red flags in any snow removal arrangement, not a judgment about any specific company:
- No written trigger depth. If the agreement doesn't say how much snow triggers a visit (for example, 1.5"), you and the provider may have very different ideas about when service starts. Vague promises like "we'll come when it snows" are where no-shows begin.
- Verbal-only agreements. A handshake deal with no written terms means no stated response time, no visit count, and nothing to point to when the driveway is buried. Get the basics in writing: trigger depth, visits per storm, and timing.
- No stated response timing. A reliable provider can tell you when they run — specific visit times or a clear per-storm schedule. If the answer is "we get there when we get there," expect exactly that.
- No backup equipment plan. One truck with no backup is one breakdown away from a missed route. Ask what happens if equipment fails mid-storm. The answer should be a plan, not a shrug.
- No per-storm visit structure. Long storms need multiple clearings so snow never builds up beyond what a visit covers. A provider who promises one pass for a two-day storm is planning to leave you buried halfway through.
Our snow removal contract guide and questions to ask a snow removal company walk through all of this in more detail — worth reading before you sign anything next season.
An honest word from a local operator
Here's the thing nobody in this business wants to admit: most no-shows aren't malicious. The operator took on too many driveways, a truck went down, a subcontractor flaked — and the customer pays for it by shoveling at 6 AM. That's exactly why we're residential-only and why our seasonal packages spell out trigger depth (1.5"), coverage per visit (up to 6"), and exact visit times (Premium runs at 7 AM, 12 PM & 5 PM). Fewer driveways, clear promises, no surprises.
